This is a very short post…

I was outside looking aimlessly at our neighbor’s house when suddenly out came a huge rat running towards the drainage… Then I remembered what my brother told me. He has this friend who was boasting their neighbor’s dog…

And this is how their conversation went.

Friend: ’tol ang ganda ng aso ng kapitbahay namin… Imported!

Wency (my brother): Anong aso yun…?

Friend: Ano sya… Uhmmm… RAT RIVER!

Wency: Ano yun Golden Retriever?

Friend: Yun nga! GOLDEN RAT RIVER!

Ginintuang Dagang Ilog! Ahihihi! Wala lang… Share ko lang! J

Hey! It has been months since I last wrote an entry for my blog… I’ve been very busy lately and I kinda have nothing to write about.

Ok, let me think of something… Hmmm…

Here it goes…

I was running late for a Red Cross meeting. Good thing there were available seats in the van going to Alabang… Unfortunately, there were too many seats available so we still have to wait for the van to be filled before leaving. (Haaay! Late na lalo!)

Anyway, a mother and her 5-year old son sat behind me… the kid was very quiet and meek. He just sat there in the corner while his mom bought bottles of water for their long (I think…) commute. When the mom came back, the kid asked her “Nay, kalian po tayo babalik dito?” and the mom answered “di pa sigurado… bakit?” and the kid replied “kasi po ngayon pa lang, namimiss ko na si tatay!”. When his words sank in to my head I really thought I was gonna cry… But I didn’t! My tears built up but I didn’t cry! He made me remember how I miss my dad… How I miss him so much!

3 days ago Christian put this “security system” in our room. He used 3 poster tubes and a whole mess of marbles to build it.

Well, it works like this… There is a note on the door that says “Please put three marbles before you enter or ask for Christian’s assistance or just knock”. So every time you come in, you have to put marbles.

Anyway, that was just my prologue… So earlier Melanie went to our room and saw the sign. She asked me what that was for. I told her that it was Christian’s security system, I also told Melanie to put marbles before she comes in. Well, she busted out with her machine gun-like way of talking and started to “ratatatatatatat!”… “What-does-it-do?-What-will-happen-if-I-put-a-marble?-Is-it-like-an-alarm?-Will-he-hear-it?-Close-the-door-and-let’s-see-if-you-can-hear-it!-And-what-will-happen-to-me-if-I-don’t-put-marbles?-IT-DOESN’T-MAKE-SENSE!”

And this is what I told her… “He’s a kid, he’s playing… IT doesn’t have to make sense…”

I admit that my response was kinda biased. Because when I was growing up, I play silly games with my brother. We’ll take out all the cushions from our sofa and build ourselves a fort. We’ll make obstacle courses (for ourselves) and to make it “a little more difficult” we use our mom’s lotion, our dad’s liquid shoe polish, and my blow-up giant turtle. We’ll make weapons like crossbows and swords and pepper bomb to fight against “Ronnie mandurukot” from Bayan Luma. And sometimes we’ll just run around the house, do the luksong baka and run again… It doesn’t make sense… But it was fun!

What made it more fun was, when Ate Saning will knock at our fort to tell us that the food for the “sundalo” is ready and it’s time to eat. What made it more fun was, after the palo we get from our mom because we wasted her lotion, she’ll let us play in our obstacle course and tell us to be careful. What made it more fun was, when our Kuya Patrick will tell us what mixture (powder, kalamansi, salt, pepper etc…) to put in our pepper bomb to blind Ronnie so we can catch him. Maybe what made it more fun was, we are not making any sense but they still ride along with our nonsense…

Well, the thing is, I play along with the kids not because I have to, but because I want to… Having your foot set on reality is a good thing, but for me, a little encouragement to their imagination and fun wouldn’t hurt. Plus I know someday they will figure out that some of the things they do really doesn’t make sense… And from there, they will learn how to think for themselves and make sense out of everything.

This is based from experience! Hahaha!

For now, I’ll just let them be kids and join their fun!
